Q1. Write Briefly

    a. Define electric flux density. What is its physical significance?
    b. In a ring of eight equal charges, q, placed equally in a circle of radius R if one charge is removed, what is the magnitude of electric potential at point P located in the center of circle?
    c. How is Gauss’s law useful in determining the E field intensity of a charge distribution?
    d. What is the fundamental difference between static electric and magnetic field lines?
    e. Write Laplace’s equation in cylindrical coordinates.
    f. How is the H field immediately outside a perfect conducting surface determined?

     7. Derive the Clausius-Mosotti relation for dielectric materials and hence                 deduce Lorentz-Lorenz equation.
     8. A conduction wire has a resistivity of 2.04 × 10–8 ohm-m at room                           temperature. The Fermi energy for such a conductor is 5.8ev. There are
          5.8 × 1028 conduction electrons per m3. Calculate :
     (i) the mobility and relaxation time of the electrons.
    (ii) the average drift velocity of the electrons when the electric field applied              to the conductor is 1.1 V per m.
    (iii) velocity of an electron with the Fermi energy.
    (iv) the mean free path of the electrons.
     9. Explain ferromagnetic domains. Explain B-H curves for power                               transformer and induction motor design.
